Wired Messages

In the days before e-mail, faxes, etc. when the quickest way to
communicate was via telegram, Western Union charged by
the word. People would try to shorten the message by
omitting words, or phonetic codes, etc. These became known
as "scotch-o-grams"
Here are some examples:

OHIO LOVE YOU
A summer camp counselor sent to the parents of a little girl
named Ann, who sat on an ant hill and had to be taken to the
infirmary for treatment:

A gossip columnist needed some personal information on
actor Cary Grant for a column. She wired the following query
to Grant's agent:
HOW OLD CARY GRANT?
